About the Role
Sellers Dorsey is seeking a Senior Director, Consulting who will serve as a senior leader within an assigned National Consulting Practice (NCP) pillar, providing strategic direction and decision-making for assigned clients and business lines, such as managed care organizations (MCOs), provider led entities (PLEs), solutions providers, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders. This role leverages deep subject-matter expertise across the program's political, policy, financial, quality, and historical dimensions to align delivery with organizational goals. As the Senior Director, Consulting, you will delivers consulting services leveraging deep managed care expertise — including but not limited to health plan operations, clinical care management, healthcare policy, healthcare technology, long-term services and supports (LTSS), and Medicaid financing — across complex populations (not limited to maternal/child health; includes home and community-based services (HCBS), individuals with disabilities, and other special populations). You will also hold sub-P&L responsibility with targets for profitability and growth within their assigned pillar, carry a hands-on client delivery load (target 50% chargeable utilization), lead a small team, and drive expansion of existing client relationships. Your key responsibilities include overseeing consulting engagements, acting as a key liaison for executive stakeholders, and driving solutions that enhance operational efficiency and client outcomes through data-driven strategies and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Client Delivery: Serves as day-to-day delivery lead on client engagements, applying subject-matter expertise directly to client work; oversees quality, timeliness, and accuracy of deliverables.
Sub-P&L Management: Holds sub-P&L responsibility for assigned clients, products, or geography, including achieving profitability and growth targets for the assigned business line.
Business Development & Account Expansion: Identifies and pursues opportunities to expand scope with existing clients; supports proposal development and scoping conversations. Does not own new-logo/net-new business development.
Team & Practice Leadership: Manages and develops direct reports; oversees staffing and workload across assigned engagements; provides technical guidance and quality review.
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Advisory: Acts as a trusted liaison for internal and external executive stakeholders; serves as a credible subject-matter resource on complex program and policy questions within the pillar.
Performance Monitoring, Innovation & Compliance: Monitors KPIs including utilization, client satisfaction, and project outcomes; identifies industry trends to inform service innovation; coordinates cross-functionally to ensure adherence to Firm policy and compliance requirements.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Health, Health Administration, business, or economics. Advanced degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Health, Health Administration, business, economics, or MBA preferred.
At least 15 years combined experience in Medicaid and public healthcare policy management and/or the healthcare consulting industry.
Demonstrated business development and account-growth experience; strategy consulting experience preferred.
Experience managing large or complex projects; able to manage several projects simultaneously.
Recognized leader in the health care industry with demonstrated expertise in strategy and management; established reputation for industry-leading expertise in one or more specialties pertaining to Medicaid.
Seasoned experience across complex managed care populations — not limited to pregnant women and children — including home and community-based services (HCBS), individuals with disabilities, and other special populations.
Experience leading negotiations in complex situations.
People management experience preferred. Working knowledge of managed care financing and rate-setting concepts is expected; this is not a finance-lead role and does not require CPA-level financial management experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Other Requirements
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relay complex technical terms in an easy-to-understand manner.
Ability to interact professionally with clients and other outside audiences.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience in quantitative program evaluation highly desirable.
Ability to work effectively independently and in teams; experience delivering services on several projects simultaneously.
Occasional travel required.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated salary range for candidates is $170,000/year in our lowest geographic market range to up to $230,000/year in our highest geographic market range. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, the candidate’s education, and the candidate’s market location. Typically, candidates are not hired near the top of the range and compensation decisions are made based upon Sellers Dorsey’s Total Compensation Policies & Guidelines. The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in our annual Corporate Incentive Plan (CIP) that can range to up to 20% of annual salary.
Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, the successful candidate (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, and vision and for insurance plans offering short term disability, long term disability, and basic life. Employees are also able to enroll in Sellers Dorsey’s 401k plan provided they meet plan requirements. Sellers Dorsey offers a Flexible Time Off that allows employees to use what they need.
