Research Analyst (Healthcare Finance Sales)
About Sellers Dorsey
Sellers Dorsey is a healthcare impact strategy firm focused on improving care access, quality, and outcomes for our nation’s most vulnerable populations. We work with providers, managed care organizations, state entities, and others, to design, implement, fund, and optimize sustainable programs that deliver maximum impact to underserved communities. Built on decades of experience in Medicaid, our team includes former state Medicaid directors, healthcare policy experts, health plan execs, and hospital leaders who know how to navigate the complexities of the system and find creative, impactful solutions that drive the greatest impact for the individuals and communities that need it most.
About the Role
Sellers Dorsey is seeking a Research Analyst (Healthcare Finance Sales) who will support the Sales team in the firm's National Medicaid Financing practice. As the Research Analyst, you will research hospitals, physicians, and state Medicaid environments and turn that research into reports that help sales staff and leadership decide which Medicaid financing opportunities to pursue and which prospective clients could benefit from the firm's work on enhanced Medicaid funding initiatives. Those initiatives help providers improve access, quality, and equity in healthcare.
This role is highly visible, produces research for senior leadership with little supervision, and works across functions to keep every output accurate. It also offers a direct path to build deep Medicaid policy, financing, and technical expertise, and its scope can grow over time based on the individual's skills and interests.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Analysis: Research and analyze Medicaid financing programs and provider financial data from multiple sources, including cost reports and state budget information. Build profiles of hospitals, physicians, and state environments that show where Medicaid financing opportunities exist.
Sales Team Reporting: Create usable custom reports for Sales team staff and leadership to guide prospect identification and pursuit. Work with colleagues across functions to confirm that reports are technically accurate and delivered on time.
Research Standards: Establish and maintain standards for research work products, including research procedures and templates.

Advanced degree in a relevant healthcare program, such as public health (MPH) or health administration (MHA) is preferred, or advanced degree in analytics, finance, business, or economics, combined with relevant healthcare experience.
3-4 years of professional experience in Medicaid, health care, and/or human services, or 1-2 years of experience combined with relevant advanced education. An exceptional candidate with relevant advanced education and no professional experience may be considered.
Strong math and Excel skills. These are required alongside healthcare experience, not in place of it.
Experience developing research work products independently for senior leadership.
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Advanced Excel to import, organize, and analyze large data sets is essential.
Familiarity with financial modeling, or the ability to learn it quickly.
SharePoint and other Microsoft products are useful.
Additional Experience (Preferred)
Finance analysis experience.
Knowledge of the state health care landscape: Medicaid, state health and human services agencies, public health, health insurance, or managed care.
Background in an academic program or other accelerated learning environment involving health care research and intelligence.
Other Requirements
Self-starter who manages ambiguous tasks and objectives and uses sound judgment to solve problems.
Quantitative and qualitative research skills, with strong analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to locate, evaluate, and synthesize public information on Medicaid and other healthcare programs, such as cost reports and state budget information on Medicaid providers.
Clear written and oral communication, including concise summaries of technical material and internal work products.
Ability to manage complex projects autonomously. Project management skills, both receiving and leading direction (time management, task delegation, PM tools).
Ability to communicate across functions to close knowledge gaps and keep work accurate and timely.
Works independently and in teams. Interacts professionally with colleagues and clients and coordinates the work of others as needed.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Sellers Dorsey does not sponsor employment visas at this time. Employment with Sellers Dorsey is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
